hi eveyone, kinda new here but not new to wheeling. anyway ive been thinking of a engine swap for the ole 258 in my cj7. i have done alot of reading lately and almost decided on the ford 5.0 swap instead of the sbc. i like the idea of fuel injection and no adapter plates (according to novak adapters).
i would like your thoughts a ideas on this matter, maybe one of you have done this swap. again i have not 100% decided on this just like some suggestions.

thanks

Hey dwiles71....I have distant kin folks in N.Wilksboro, somewhere. I have never met them, but you might be one of them. Im Dylan Wiles......from Mocksville.

The 302 would be a great swap. What trans do you have in your jeep now? Do you plan on swaping axles also? And what kind of wheeling do you plan on doing?

the trans is a t176 and would like to keep it just for money sake. im going to keep the axles, the rear is a 44 and a stock 30 front geared 4:10 running 35's. dont get to wheel much anymore, so mostly street and an ocasional trip in to the woods.

Many hours worth of reading here that will help you:

I just finished swapping a 5.0 out of a 92 Mustang into my cab truck. Here is some info I have saved:

There are two suppliers (Painless and RJM Technologies) selling ready to go wiring harnesses for about $500. If you are considering the RJM one, give me a shout first. Another option is to buy the Ford Racing harness from Summit racing for $210. There are three parts to the 5.0 harness. The engine part, the main harness that connects the computer to the engine and to the car, and the O2 sensor harness. The Ford racing harness is only the main harness, and it requires cutting a few plugs off and wiring into your vehicle. I decided to modify my stock harness. Here are some links:

Ron Francis also has a wiring harness for this application as well.

Depending on which 5.0 your using, a parts car is also a good source for the wiring harness.

My experince in this is with early broncos and 89-93 mustangs are a favorite source to aquire the parts you'll need.

As far as the tranny bolting up, motor mount fab, adaptors and such the jeep guys will have to chime in.

thanks guys for the info. yea i got this idea from the pirate site and have been reading it nightly, but mostly those guys like to argue about what heads to run or lift and duration of the cam make hp here and there, and all i want are the nuts and bolts of the swap, but ill keep reading to find the buried info in need.

thanks

The 302 is a good motor and a popular swap, i would recommend the AOD when you decide to go with an AUto

I have a couple 302 and AOD's ready to build if you need anything

Let me know if i can help
