I have a 305 sbc in a car that I had to take off the cat. The small tube running from the back of the engine to the cat. what exactly is that. The cat was stopped up and I had to take it off the clear it because it was running rough. Once i removed it then it keeps running like its fouled the plugs. Anybody have any ideas as to what my problem may be? It ran fine until the cat stopped up then I guess it ran to lean and maybe fouled some plugs. Anyone have some ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The tube is an air line to feed air to the cat so that it will convert. Usually when a cat is plugged up the engine is running too rich. The raw fuel basically burns so hot it melts the monolith (guts) inside the cat. The monolith is just porceline (sp?) coated with platinum, palladium and something else that escapes me at this time. So I'd say that you have a fuel problem. Carbed? Or Fuel injected?

That tube runs from the catalytic converter to a check valve on the diverter valve, which feeds the AIR pump. Simple fix...install a new catalytic converter, change the check valve, and install some new spark plugs. It should then be all set to go.:driver:
*I would assume that the engine is carbureted since it has that AIR hose from the converter.

it is fuel injected. I think it is the plugs since the cat stopped up and more than likely fouled the plugs. I am going to check for sure tomorrow.

By the way, thanks for your help chip.
