Ok so the blazer I have has a 305 which is known as a boat anchor. Basically I want to know is it worth the time of messing with it, ie carb swap, headers, cam, intake. Or just swap in a 350 and play with it. I'm not really looking for much power just enough to move this thing half way decent. Also at the time this is a tbi motor so anything that would help about this swap is welcome. Thanks.

I know GM high tech did some stuff on a 305 in a firebird and got it moving pretty good. But with the 350 you can get them a dime a dozen and the aftermarket supports the engine very well. But i think with good heads and a cam and intake getting mid 200 to low 300 hp is possible.

Just go to a 350. The 305 would cost more to make the same power as a 350. You can use the same ECM and throttle body from the 305 but you will need new injectors for a 350 they flow more fuel. Changing to carb is ok but there is some extra cost there unless you have the stuff laying around. Just an idea....look into a 5.3 or 6.0 swap. You would be surprised at how cost effective it would be and MAJOR gain in hp and tq.

I already have a holley 600, and a sbc intake for a spreadbore so all I need is the adapter for that and then tackle the fueling. Speaking of which anybody know what the tbi pump pushes, I was thinking about reg it down but I wasn't exactly sure if that was possible. Also the other conern was ign. Kinda turned this into a carb swap thread but oh well. I just really hate messing with fuel ing. on stuff where a carb simplifies alot.
