Why not sell both transmissions and find an AX-15? If you already have a T5 it's a easy swap.

That way you can run either engine with the AX-15 and D300.
Well, the 700 and 300 have to be purchased. I have a good hook up though. I have thought about the ax-15. Honestly, I thought about keeping the pos t5, but I would have to source a flywheel and figure out how to put a crack position sensor on. I also have a sye 231 in it now. I don't mind staying with it.

I'd run an AX15 behind a TBI 350 all day long without a worry in the world.

I chose the AX15 to mount to my v8 after a lot of research. My build is for light wheeling and heavy summer driving. The great thing about the ax15 to me was they can be a dime a dozen and are easy to rebuild. Got me overdrive and it's a manual. If had the money I would have gone with the newer Jeep six speed transmission.

Apples or oranges!? It's really the best of both worlds in all honesty! These are two of my favorite gas engines of all time! Which ever you chose is a great choice really unless ya plan to go bigger than V8 wins always in my world!?

This being my old jeep, I agree with Jody. I always wanted to ditch the T5 and the 258 for a SBC and ax15.
I built it while I was in college on a junkyard/beer budget though.:beer:
I hope everything else is going good on it.
Can't wait to see it all fixed up.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but another 4.0 stroker vote here. If you already have a known good motor, it's stupid cheap to swap the crank and rods only and do a low budget stroker. If it's not a known good motor, then you should probably freshen it up, and the same stupid cheap stroker assessment still applies, and it's even easier because you're already tearing down the motor.

Well, the motor I have runs well, but is really high miles. I have decided against the factory auto, so that changes things as well. I will have to come up with a trans. I did find an ax-15 if I was able to get it in time. I really don't feel like tearing a motor down right now. I already have one that I don't feel like putting together. I put the 4.0 for sale. We will see what happens there.

no replacement for displacement

you'll love this trans behind that motor. lock down the TQ on a downhill incline and it will leave seatbelt marks on your chest. or lock it in 1st for crawling. it will stall the motor so be careful! its really a great setup.
