was wondering if someone could guide me on how to adjust the valves on a 351 boss with 2v heads. The motor was running good but had a slight tick on one of the valves so i made the mistake of trying to "fix" something that wasn't broken. After i tried to get the tick out its runnin like crap lost all my power. ANy suggestions?

No not all the valves bu all of them on the side of the motor that was ticking. I couldn't tell which one was ticking or if there was multiple valves ticking. So after I attempted adjust the one side and started it I found out that I was just making it worse I left it alone and searched for some advise. Is there a certain number of turns I have to go? Or a certain tourque I hAve to take them to?

what kind of cam/lifters are in it...they adjust differently.

man to be honest i have know idea. i bought the engine from a guy in Dudley NC who races drags and had the motor in a mustang. im pretty sure he said its got a .492 cam but as far as anything else goes im not sure. this is the first ford ive ever owned so this is all a learning expierience for me. All i know is that it has a wndsor block with a 351boss intake and 2v heads. ive got some rocker stoppers that im gonna put on tomorrow so i can adjust them with them engine runnin and im gonna see what happens. thanks for any advice you can throw me. is there a way that i can tell what i got?

You need to know whether it has solid/hydraulic flat/roller to answer the question.

"Boss intake" huh.... how well do you know the guy you got the engine from?

Setting the valve lash isn't difficult to get running, its tougher to get perfect.
Without going into a bunch of theory that I doubt you care about, a quick and dirty way is to have the engine running and slowly back off the nut until you get a rattle and then tighten a 1/4 turn

yes you are going to get oil everywhere...live with it...the rocker stoppers are more trouble than they are worth..break a tab off and its down in the valve train..not good.

by the way ford chevy dodge makes no diff here dont be intimidated because its your 1st ford....

yea its got the boss intake. i dont know the guy perrsonally i got his number from an article in the bargain trader. The engine has never given me any trouble and has always ran like a scolded dog. but its had that little bit of a tick. im pretty sure its got hydraulic/ solid but im not sure. So startin it and adjusting it just like a chevy will do the trick huh? 1/4 turn passt the raddle?

More than likely it being a windsor block the heads are 2v cleavland heads. If that's the case alot of work went into that engine, they just don't bolt on. I thought of building a engine like that but after I got my parts list together it cost to much for me to build. I forget the sequence on adjusting them but it sounds like you need to run the one you ran in back out and start over.
