Looking into upgrading from the 31in Bridgestone Duelers that I got with the 17 JKU to some 35s. My questions are how much is that going to effect the power turning those bigger tires? Would I need to regear for them? What about the speedometer, regear it or tune with a chip? New to all of this so any help will be appreciated.

Auto trans, or manual?

Being that it is a sport it probably fly has 3.21 gearing. With an auto it will not do well at all, it will search alot and lag in overdrive. If it does have 3.73 gearing it would be barely tolerable.

Your power will be greatly affected. If it was a manual with 3.73 wouldn't be so bad.

Plan on at least 4.56 regear if not 4.88, you will also need a ProCal module to correct your gearing and tire size to the Jeep so the trans shift points are correct.

The ProCal module will also correct your speedo

With the Auto, 35's and 3.21's it wont be fun and could possibly do damage to the trans. It will be shifting all over the place. If you are going to do it at least get a procal so that you can program the computer for the tires. This will fix the speedo, abs, and help some with the transmission shifting. You are going to want a minimum of 4.56 gears like Jason said with a true 35.

Ok, thanks for the help! I think that sounds like a whole lot more than I wanted to get it to. Think I will go with 33. That is unless they will need all of that also?

What isn't your off-roading goal? Or do you just want to look cool at the mall?

Wranglers come stock with 3.21 gears and 32" tires, upgrading to a 33 or 34 is fine, and will not require any gear mods. Just get some sort of programmer to adjust the speedo, and the trans will be happy.

We are looking at trails like the medium ones at Uwharrie, and running the beach. Spent the Saturday (25th ) before the trails opened up on a work day. Handled Dicky Bell fine up to the rock crawl. Didn't attempt that, not really what I am looking for. Basically just haveing a good time without tearing my Jeep up.
