37's and axle

I have 10 bolt axles right now. Wonder if I should get one tone axles off ebay, or do I buy TEN shafts for the front and stronger shafts and a c lip eliminator for the rear along with disc brake swap for the rear. I want to run 37" humvee goodyear tires and I only like the mud. My truck has a 350 and I want to swap in pro comp heads, summit stage 3 intake, summit cam ( highest lift with stock converter) and a edelbrock 1407 (750 cfm). I'm also looking at a built 700r4, I'm running a turbo 350 right now. Anyone with any experience here? I can't see ever going bigger than the 37's goodyears because of the nice low price.

The reason for not just saying wtf, and just throwing 1 tons on is because I kind of like the 6 lug wheels that I have on the truck. I'm not into spending money on wheels so since these are fancy i'd like to keep them.

are you gonna run lockers or lsd's in the axle's? what size truck? a fullsize jimmy like your screenname?

You will most likely end up breaking your ring and pinion or an axle shaft.

I think I read somewhere that 14 bolt axles have 30 spline, is that right? my last truck I had a d60/d70 and both were 35 spline.

I can pull 14bolts all day long for 250 depending on the junk yard i go too. I would try to look around first before buying your axles on ebay. shipping is going to cost.

Ebay one tons? Wheels are the least of your money worries. If you've already had a rig that you put 35spline 60 shafts in, then you probably know what you need. That being said, mud guys with much larger engines and much better tires tractionwise than the hmmwv goodyears run that same 10 bolt with stock shafts and never have any problems. Why not run what you have and see what happens. Then if they do break, buy some h1 beadlocks for dirt cheap and swap in a 60/14b. It is going to be an anchor on 36/37" tires though. A 14 bolt's splines are cut at a different angle than dana shafts so you can't equate spline count to diameter, it is stronger than a 70.

your stock axle could last depends on how hard you get on it, hummer tires suck in the mud btw unless you grove them

should I have a l/s in the back instead of the front?? Anyone have experience (good or bad) here with lock rites?

ive got the 37" radials grooved but i in my opinion neither are good but better than nothin i guess

There cheap and bigger than whwat i have so that's why i want another set.

I was just looking at full floater 14 bolts with disc brakes.. you can get one from a 90-2000 chevy's

So would a 90-2000 14 bolt six lug handle 36's super swampers in the mud? I like that they come with disc brakes. Also was there ever a dana 60 with 6 lugs? or should I run a spacer taking it from 8 to 6 lug?

Yes a 14B SF should be fine, and no they never made a 6 lug D60 and no you should not run a spacer to convert 8 to 6 lug. Just sell your current wheels and buy new ones.

I wheeled a 72 Blazer for years with 38 swamper TSL SX's, a D44 in front and a 12 bolt in back. (A D44 is not any stonger than a big 10 bolt) Lockrites in both ends. For several years it went up everything in Tellico, Blairsville, Uwharrie, Buffalo, etc... It had a 383 stroker with nice power. I say that to say this... One driver could wheel your truck all day and not break a thing. The next guy would break it driving off the trailer. Wheeling with tender or undersized parts makes you a better driver. You will start to see the lines develop in front of you and you wont even think about how much throttle you need to apply, it will be an involuntary reaction. It is the Zen of Wheeling, Grasshopper.:)

How bad would 38's suck on the road? I live nine miles from work & I don't drive the truck alot. I could get 38" tsl super swampers bias ply for 1578.59 & mounting.

They suck on long trips but it really depends on your tolerance for rough ride, shitty handling, and loud tires.

Put 4 golf balls in each tire for balance. I have been down the road at 70 plus on 40's with no problems and no wheel weights. How you are geared will make you love it or hate it more than the tires will.
