I may have to make my jeep more driver friendly as well as cheaper on parts so I am thinking about stepping down from 42s to 37s with my 60/14blt combo. 14 bolt is shaved so I think I will be ok there but what is everyone running in the 37" flavor? Just testing the waters on this right now.

Krawlers in the sticky flavor...wait you would prob break more parts than now......

Sticky krawlers are too expensive to be driving on the street much with, in my opinion. 37" KM2 would be the tits, but they are known for relatively weak sidewalls with harder crawling.

I've heard of people getting 50,000+ miles out of their KM2's.

Personally, I'm running 37" Pitbull radial Rockers unbalanced on 17" aluminum beadlocks with zero vibration on the street. They flex out plenty well at 6psi on the rocks and run very smooth at 20psi on the street and I've had them up to 75mph without issues. They are loud though- Like B52 Bomber loud.

I think they are the tallest 37" out there, one of anyway.

I would also look at the MTR/Ks. In my opinion it is the best all around tire out there if you are street driving and trail riding/rock crawling. I'm looking at their 38x14.5's, maybe that is the best compromise for you?

It will not see much road time but I do want to get in it and head up the mountain on a day trip and drive it to dinner with the AC blowing cold. Looking at the 37" iroks. Pitbulls seem really wide! How durable are the km2s and how do they compare offroad?

my experience with the km2's on my dodge, was that they had extremely weak sidewalls, and wouldn't take much of a load, two of the sidewalls actually ripped, when breaking them down, to mount my nittos. i'm partial to the nitto muds myself....

i'm running 35" km2's and i love them. haven't had any sidewall issues or anything. i'm not one to really care about tire noise but for a mud tire they aren't very loud. for a dual purpose rig they are hard to beat in my opinion.

I ran the old style MTRs on my Tacoma and loved them. They lasted forever and then I still got a good bit of coin out of them when they were almost bald.
I had a set of cooper SSTs on the Dodge for a while....didn't care for them much.

I'd go with the new MTRs or KM2s

I ran the km2s on my dodge and was beyond unimpressed. The a/t's have better mud and snow traction, and don't suck for mileage. You know that irok's suck too. Pitbulls are wide, but it's not like your axles can't handle it. That would be my choice. Or 38's.

Iroks really depend on what rim you have them on. I'm on my 3rd set, and this particular tire, albeit on a 20" rim, works much better because of how flat the contact patch is, versus a ballooned contact patch. As for KM2s, I have some 34x10 KM2s on my DD and they have worked very well also, but it is because of how much PSI is within the contact patch, supporting the vehicle. I'm a big believer in how much tread actually touches the ground, matched on the proper wheel.

I vote for 2 sets. One street pair and another for offroading. That way you don't kill MT's on the street or have the noise kill you.

I've had experience with the KM2s and IROKs (as previously mentioned), and while I haven't personally ran the new MT/Rs with Kevlar, I think they would be a great tire. I will probably consider the new MT/R or PBR when it's time for me to get a new set of tires. The PBRs work well from the vehicles I've seen them on, although they wouldn't be as good of a road tire as the MT/Rs.

I have had 2 sets of km2's and love them. They are great in the rocks. They are definitely not a bogger in the mud but really depends on how wet the mud is. My first set never made any noise on the road even after 43000 miles. Sold them and they had plenty of tread left. I know one guy on here that got 72000 out of his. As far as a weak sidewall, well I busted one at golden mountain but I saw a brand new irok puntured the same day. Really depends on where you wheel and how you wheel. There is no perfect tire but I will put the km2 up against any tire out there when it comes to rock crawling and then driving it down the road.

It's interesting to see how many miles people have gotten out of KM2s. If I get 35k out of mine, I will be surprised. However, they are a load E 255/85 tire that I run at 40 psi, which I think has worn them out much quicker than running them at 80 psi. Also, I drive primarily in the mountains on curvy roads, which has a lot to do with quick wear. That said, I have 25k on them currently and have been very satisfied with how they hold up. Expedition style driving/ many miles of back-road driving in my DD 4runner is a big hobby of mine as well, and these tires have seen at least 5k off pavement and only been punctured once - by a nail in the tread, so it wasn't even fair.

So, I have been offered and even trade of my 42s and beadlocks for a set of 37x14.50x16 Creppies with beadlocks with equal tread wear. I know it doesnt seem right trading 42s for 37s even, however the maxxis are more expensive new. Any input on what I should do?
