Hey guys, anyone here ever put a small block chevy in a yj? If so any links to info or any advice about tranny and xcase selection? This is just gonna be a mild trail rig\ mall crawler. Thanks in advance guys.

Cant really go wrong with a 400/205 combo...

Could even get away with a a700/208 for mild wheeling....

I have a mall crawler with a 350/300hp crate engine, 350 turbo/231, d30/35
building a crawler with a 350,350turbo/205,d60/14 bolt
I have seen alot of different combo's. what axles are you planning on running? what kind of wheeling you going to do?

It's a mod that many do. the up side is that you can build a couple 350's for what it'll cost to build an AMC engine.
The down side, and there are a lot of sources out there for it, you have to change the radiator, Engine mounts, tranny mounts, drive shaft lengths. Of course choose your tranny and t case selection to get the shortest combo, unless you are gonna lengthen the wheelbase.
the electronics may or may not be so simple, depending on your choice of engine.
Good luck with the swap

Thanks guys I'm gonna run the stock 30-35 combo for now till they blow. Its only gonna be a mild trail rig, basically dirt roads lol and mall crawling. No wheel base stretching yet.

If it is just mild use. the setup in my mall crawler works well. advance adapters will have the engine mounts and t case adapter you will need. all you will need is the engine and tranny.

Thanks guys. Its gonna be around 400 when I get done. So not mild at all, especially not with my driving and showing out style lol. I've got a d44 hd and a d60 with 4.10 gears in them I might slap in whe the 30 35 go. Thanks guffy I'll keep that in mind. Like said before its gonna be basically a cruiser so I'll probably go with a t350 and stock x case and axles for now. What should I do about springs for the added weight? I was thinking maybe a add-a-leaf for now but when I go to the 44-60 combo what springs should I use?

The first time you spin a tire with that 400hp you will snap a rear axle....

Ha ha yeah that's what I was figuring sky hi. I built a twin to the engine I'm building now and it was in a 86 c10 and it was right at 400

I stuck with a 5 speed. I got tranny and transfercase out of a 91 chevy truck. (89-up front driveshaft will be on the side you need)

i went t350/205 and used chevy axles and as for springs i kept my rough country 3.5in, springs . used the advance adaptor shorty headers and motor mounts.i kept my stock feul pump and used a bypass holley regulator and you need to run short waterpump and summit plastic radiator fan. purchased radiator from ebay and everything else was pretty much fab. work . good luck
