I've run into a snag while reassembling a 390 Holley, specifically misalignment of the vacuum diaphragm link that connects to the secondary linkage. When I cycle the secondary throttle shaft, the diaphragm link rubs against the rectangular opening, enough to make it 'drag' closed and at times even remain in the open position.
Judging by the placement of the cork gasket that seals the vacuum signal port between the carb main housing and the diaphragm case, it appears that the assembly is meant to be fastened and done. The mounting shaft that the link attaches to has a stepped OD, which is the actual cause of the misalignment. It appears that if this portion of the shaft not present, the link would find its aligned position and everyone would be happy.
