What tranny will work with the 91 HO in my YJ. I want an auto but have found some issues with the computer side of things, flywheel sensor issue etc. Is this true? What model will work 904 727? I know those aren't computer controled. Would I be better off in the long run to pull the HO and put a 360 in and forget the computer crap altogether and go with propane or a sideways quadrajet?

I say go with an AW4. I just got done swapping one into my 88, and it wasnt too bad. The good part is that this trans will have the CPS on it, which will be needed to make it run. I dont know much about the HOs, mine is a renix, I had to change to a TPS from an automatic equipped car. I made it harder on myself by using parts from different year models. The computer was not all that hard to wire, just a lot of time with the soldering iron, you should be fine if you are good at reading wire diagrams.
If you go this route, i can tell you a little more about what was involved in my swap. I think the aw4 is a really good trans too, once you get over the computer crap.

EDIT: I was swapping from a 5 speed, so i had none of the electronics in place to begin with.

Awspence, what are you doing about your detent cable? That's all I lack with my auto swap, unless I run into computer problems. From what I read on pirate4x4, you don't have to do a computer swap with a TF999, whereas the AW4 needs the "control module".

Detent cable?? do you mean kickdown? if do, the way i found to be the easiest was to go grab an entire throttle body at teh Pull a Part. This way it had the correct TPS and the bracket for the kickdown. Or maybe youre talkign the shifter cable?? If so, then i just bolted a shifter assembly in and hooked it up, minus the indicator cable.

Let me know if i didnt really answer your question, and i will try again.

Detent/ kickdown/ TV cable... the one that goes from the throttle body to the tranny. I'm having problems finding the assembly. Any suggestions on where to go? The local junkyards don't have any YJs. My shifter is fine, I just used a Hurst.

what year model is your YJ?? The pull a part never has any YJs either when i am down there, but plenty of XJs. I dont see any reason that you couldnt get the bracket off of a similar year model XJ throttle body, or save yourself the stripped out torx screws(ask me how i know...) and just grab the whole throttle body.

Eric, without a doubt go with a TF999 from an injected YJ or TJ. Remember the abuse mine took? Not many autos can handle that kind of use.

Good HD converter, kevlar clutch and overhaul kit, GOOD shift kit, HD sprag, and a big cooler was all mine had.

Plus they are dime a dozen and easy to find parts for.
