4.0 in a CJ7?

Can anyone tell me what it will take to put a 4.0 out of a 1990 Cherokee into my 1986 CJ7? I haven't purchased the engine yet but planned on picking it up this weekend. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you get the whole wiring bundle and computer with the motor it’s just a few wires to make it standalone. Just don’t remove the cat or anything and it won’t require tuning

Fairly easy swap. I did one for a friend of mine many years ago. You do have to relocate the TPS if I remember right.

I still have a few small things left to do like fab up a new mount for the throttle linkage, but you could essentially copy my setup with an OEM or MC2100 carb. Or any other popular swap for that matter.

I installed a 98 4.0 into my CJ7. I skipped the headaches and went straight to Hesco for the CPS snd balancer kit, VSS, and the throttle linkage kit.
