If I were to put a 4.0HO from a '95 XJ into a 4.0 '88 MJ. what would I need to deal with? I would rather just keep the Renix engine management system that came in the MJ.
Can I just swap the fuel rail and throttle body and be done with it, or is there more to it?

So... either my question is just too stupid to deserve an answer, or nobody here knows what it takes to retrofit an HO longblock into an earlier XJ/MJ.

I would say just swap out all the externals and it should work. I have went the other way, swapping a 92 into a 97. Just swapped out distributer, oil filter housing, temp sensor, and a few other items that were different and did not have any issues.

IIRC the Renix head and the HO head have different mounting patterns for the intake and exhaust manifolds. I may be wrong but I thought I discovered this when I was looking for a replacement engine for my old 1990 XJ

I have done this many times before. Just swap all of the external parts onto the newer long block. No surprizes at all.
