4.0 lit. stroker

Ask Travis, (tw89yj) he will be able to tell you alot about them. Just have to wait till he returns from Moab. Lots of others on here have built one I'm sure they will chime in soon.
I was considering the same thing and heard lots of good things about doing that. Just seemed more reasonable to go with SBC.

Just my .02

Except that i can get the same HP/TQ as a standard SBC for the same money as a crate motor, and not have to deal with the engine swap mess. I'm putting a 4.6 in my ZJ. Bored .040, Crower cam, 99+ intake, and a few other little things, gonna run me ~ $2k when all said and done. My jeep ran good, but smoked and lacked power, 217k miles had worn the rings pretty good over the years.
I'm looking for about 250 crank HP.

If you decide you want to do that let me know as I have a couple of 258's and a 4.0 short block that I need to get rid of soon.

Got one in my TJ, and am about to start putting one in my friends XJ. Best thing I have done to the jeep by far. Cost is good, and power is extremely useable. Definitely helped my highway mpg also, as I don't have to shift into 4th on hills anymore.

I didnt realize you could pull those kinda numbers from a stroked 4.0. What you want for the 4.0 short block?

ive got two of them, or should say, still have one, had another.....i love the stroker, no changing over drivetrains, can run stock fuel injection with a few mods, same, more power and tq than a stock 350

if you have any specific questions shoot me a PM, i'll be glad to answer any questions you may have

Ever have any problems with detonation?

You wouldn't happen to be the same Mac5005 that posted in the pirate TOTM thread?

yeah thats me.....nope.....i had been running 93, and now im able to run 89.......turned fuel pressure back up, and backed off on the timing a little, and no detonation.......PM me, youll have no problem getting 250 at the crank

i've got a complete motor out of a 97 and would love to make it a stroker and swap it into my 98 xj. i know that i'd need a crank shaft and rods out of 258. what other parts would i need to get it going right? pretty much a budget build

thats pretty much it.......new pistons/rings if you bore the block, depending on condition, you MAY be able to get away with just a good fresh hone, and new rings, then youd need a cam or reuse the stock one...new bearings...other than crank and rods, thats about it

could i run 87 octane? i have a complete motor ran fine before i wrecked the jeep and pulled it out. whats the difference on the crank shaft? i was told to get a 87-90 something about grinding it down and putting a spacer in it?
