4.0 starter on AMC 258?

I am trying to get rid of the fender mounted starter solinoid on my CJ5 and was wonder if late 80's jeep Cherokee starter will bolt on my 258 3 speed.

I know I Will have to reroute the wires down to the starter but I was wonder if the the starter it self will work.

I know a late 80's YJ starter will work but I would have to buy a brand new one of them. I can get a cherokee start at the local upullit for a fraction of the cost.

(If you haven't figured it out I hate ford products and don't want to deal with the failures associated with them. So I am trying to rid my CJ of all the ford electronic parts.)

Got my own answer! It will not work the starter for the 4.0 and 4.2 are the same in 89 and are the high torque and will bolt up to the 79 but the gear doesn't go far enough in the bell house to turn the motor over.

So you will be seeing a like new starter for 88-95 4.0/4,2 starter in the parts for sale!
