This is how I feel about that. This is FYI for anyone that does a search for info on doing it themselves.

I watched all of the videos and thought I would try what was easiest. I first tried the tranny tunnel hole method underneath the dash. It does put you right there at it. I was able to use an 11mm to loosen the sensor bolt on my 2002 Grand Cherokee via this hole in the tunnel. However, there is just no room to pull the sensor out and how will you get it back in there if you do get it out? I ended up dropping the transfer case crossmember about 6" which allowed me to get my arm in there without disconnecting any tranny linkage. I have small hands despite big arms. The driveline would have drooped lower if I would have needed it to. I used my hand to reinstall the sensor, bolt and wire guide and hand tightened. I then used 2 full size extensions and one half size extension to tighten. Oh, and I used a coat hanger to pull the sensor over the bell housing. Fed it through from the passenger side of the engine compartment where the sensor connects. Was a real PITA but I am happy to say I did it myself and saved the labor charges.

Those are a real pain in the ass to access. I've done them without dropping trans down but it takes some magic with long screwdrivers and needle nose and a bit of cursing.

Is it a lot worse on a Grand compared to an XJ? That's about how I felt after I did mine, except I was smiling while giving the big ol middle fanger, because I succeeded. Must be worse, cuz there's not tcase crossmember removal required. I remember being glad I have scrawny arms. Also, duct taping the little bolts to the socket, on the end of every extension I owned, helped keep the bolt in the socket while trying get the threads started.
Oh, and the second time is not as bad...no surprises, you already know it sucks :D
