I have an older 4.3 block without the balancing shaft, going to put a set of vortec heads on it, with flat top pistons, does anyone know what kind of hp gain i could expect?

Supposedly the Vortec heads flow twice the amount of the stockers of old. I'm doing a little research myself for a buggy I'll keep you informed.

What intake manifold and fuel setup are you planning on using? CPI / MPFI / TBI / Carb?

ordered an elderbrock intake and have a holley truck avanger off road carb, i've been running a 2" spacer under the carb

So your using the 2114 edelbrock performer? If so you may not see as much of a gain as you expect. Im not sure why but my experience with the 4.3 vortec and the 2114 performer on the vortec heads has gqined about 10hp and raised full tq to a higher rpm. This is actually the reason i prefer FI these days. This will be especially true when adding a spacer. Either way though this engine is a strong performer off road.

Why not just go TBI? You can pick the parts at a junk yard and it will run great. Howell has a ton of info as well as people on this board.

I agree with this post 1000000000%, way better option, not only for low range tq but fuel mileage as well (I'm sure it's not an issue but it's always nice to save money)

Edit: This is the easiest of all fuel injection options to control.
