4.5 inch suspension lift on a T.J.

My buddy wants me to help him put a 4.5 inch suspension lift on his Jeep. I wasnt sure if he needs to run a slip yoke eliminator on it. Does anyone know?

I would definitely say he would need to. I can't imagine that angle being anything but awful.

you could get away without one if he is just gonna run it on the street, if he is going to get anywhere near a trail he will prolly need one

He'll most likely get vibes if he doesn't use a SYE.

we ran a 4" lift on a tj with just a drop kit, but it never saw much of a trail.

I also ran a 4" with just a drop kit and was fine. I didn't have any vibes either. I would just plan for it.

My rule of thumb on a TJ is anything over 3", we always try to install a sye for the customer.

The two TJ's that I have done.. both tried to not do an SYE... both had to replace thier pinion seals often and had vibes so bad it rattle thier teeth.

It seems pointless to spend a bunch of money on a lift and then lower the xfer skid to correct drive line angles.

the 4.5 RE kit is gonna net over 5" to begin with so you are def gonna want to get a sye kit. i know from when i was running just the 3.5 RE and a drop kit i still had vibes at take off

Yes, you need one, might as well do it while your under there. I'm running the hack and tap, works well.

It also depends on what engine/tranny/axle combo your running.. A few extra inches of drive shaft can make a difference..

Hack and tap is for tight ass"es, couple bucks more, get the real thing in a 32 spline version.

yes you need a sye to do it right. I got the AA Sye and a TW shaft, works great, no vibes

Go ahead and just put a super short JB Conv SYE on it. The extra couple inches will pay off in a couple years when you decide that the jeep isn't big enough as it is.
