i have a 2.5 97 wrangler. it is a turd. i wanna put a 4.6 stroker in it or somethin. i have read that its not woth swappin but really how hard can it be. we used to swap honda motors in and out like it was nothin. can someone let me know how hard it is and why its such a big deal thanx

ive been told the strokers are crazy power compared to the stock 4.0. i'm in the process off building one right now. but the swap? well i'm not 100% but i think you'll need the computer and wiring changed. and maybe the fuel pump. i know the 4.0 to 4.6 stroker is pretty simple.

Because the 2.5 & 4.0 don't have the same frame motor mounts. If you want to swap a 4.0 in you have to cut off the 4 cyl mounts and weld in 6 cyl mounts. In addition, the transmissions are different and the t-cases have a different spline count. It's not that it is hard, but its not any easier than swapping any other engine in, meaning it is not a plug & play kind of operation. So what people are saying is if you are putting in a 4.0 because you think it will be easier/cheaper/faster than putting in a 350, 302, etc, it probably won't be.

The engine itself from a cherokee is the same but all the brackets on the front are different. The cherokee runs an offset fan so you would have to change all that out, or upgrade to an electric fan. You would still need the frame mounts from a wrangler.

Sell the 4 banger and buy a 4.0L Jeep it is cheaper, if you really want to keep yours then find a wrecked Wrangler and start cutting. The clusters are different, transmissions, frame mounts everything that was previously posted.
As for swapping in a stroker I built a 4.7L for my XJ and it is great a hell of alot more power then the stock 4.0L. I also ported and polished my head and swapped a 99+ intake in also port matched to the head, Competition Cams cam. When I get my new injectors I am going to have it dyno'd.
Here is a link to the thread I have on here

I'd draw up two lists...I had a wrangler with a 2.5, and wanted to do a 4.0 swap. Didn't know anything about the 4.6/4.7s back then. I started researching what I would need for the swap to 4.0, and ended up finding that it costs the same (and in some cases less, depending on who you know) to drop in a small block V8. So I put together two lists with prices, one with 4.0 stuff, and one with V8 stuff. I ended up building and installing a SBC 350. I think you should consider it, if you're up to it.

I have a buddy that may want to sell a 4.7 stroker. Everything is there except injectors and a throttle body. I think he is looking for $1000
