Trying to decide what to do with my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Had it a little over a year. Strong truck but now has an engine knock. Sounds to me like a rod bearing, Pop thinks its in the valve train. Just got finishrd replacing the timing chains, guides and tensioners, that took care of some of the engine noise but the knock is still there. Idles smooth, just knocks. Havent had a chance to work on it anymore this week. Thinking about pulling valve covers, crank it and see if its a rocker arm or something. Has about 150 K on it. May sell it if it needs an engine. Got too many more projects. Any advice would be appreciated.

Isn't that their V8? I've heard they just blow up out of the blue. "Driving down the interstate and it just shut off, oil changed every 3k since new, yadda yadda, now at 120 k it blew up." My bet is rod knock.

Search on jeepforum.com. Is it coming from the top or bottom of the engine? I have read threads about rocker arms coming off. Pulling the valve covers might tell you something.
