4 wheel low shift

At Uwharrie last weekend, I shifted to 4 low, and a couple of times after I was in 4 low, the shifter came back and t-case popped into neutral. I stopped the Jeep (2000 Cherokee automatic), and shifted back to neutral (tranny) and shifted back to 4 low and vehicle stayed in 4 low as we drove.

Is this unusual, or normal for the Cherokee? If abnormal, what should I do to fix it?

Thanks, Bubba

Mine does that sometimes, whenever I don't engage it good enough, just make sure it is all the way engaged next time. ( Put your tranny in neutral and then yank your t case handle all the way back then proceed)

my ECORS racerig does that too, its a 95 with the 231. I have a bungee cord around the drivers seat mount I use to help keep it in 4LO, never bothered to figure out the linkage adjustment.

According to the FSM, pop the console cover. Engage 4Lo. Crawl under your rig and loosen the adjuster bolt and free it up. Ensure shifted into 4Lo by lever on tcase. Insert 1/4" shim behind lever. Tighten adjuster bolt. Remove shim and reinstall cover. Check operation.

my buddy got a 94 XJ last week, we went to Uwharrie saturday, we had this happen once, maybe twice, i think it was because he didnt have it in all the way. might need adjusting like kelley says.

nah man, you could take ole blue. just have to drive careful in a few places. i see tons of old blazers and stuff. hell im running a 77 F150 with no problems.
you could do all of it with a little backing here and ther to get turned right.
i dont know who told you that but i strongly disagree.

i know i guy who runs a 97 F250 4 door long bed once in a while, now he has some problems but he does it, but i dont think your ride is that big is it?

its not huge but a guy i work with said he went in his dodge and alot of the trails were too tight for him to get in....granted it seems his truck is mostly a mall crawler and he probably didnt wanna scrath his pretty rims lol...

Alex, you'll be fine at URE, prolly best to get an alignment before going though, my jeep still hates left turns lol. Worst case I guess ill have to pull that bowtie of yours up the hills :).
Makes sense since its carolina blue and my jeep is duke blue LOL, nah just hatin on ya, once u get some wheelin experience ull love it, just don't do it when ur mad, ull beat the everloving shit out of ur truck, I'm sure u remember times in the white jeep at 311 hahaha

with my new cross over streering setup my truck loves left and right turns it is rediculouse what kind of turning radius i have now compared to stock...lol

as for u pullin me up hills, ur jeep couldnt pull a kite up a hill if the wind was on your side!!

i really dont wanna beat the hell out of my truck... it is my only (slightly) reliable vehicle and i cant keep throwin money in it...lol

URE isn't going to be an issue for you, seriously.

Honestly for the money your talking about throwing into your truck
new engine, etc...

You should sell it.

Start fresh, buy a beater XJ (Cherokee) for like 1500 bucks, then buy a decent dd for yourself. Voila, money saved.
