I think I have my 42" sx2s sold. Now begins my search for what to replace the, with.

I want something more street friendly than the sx2s. I'm putting lockout hubs back on the front, and swapping my spool out for a Detroit so i can drive my jeep more than just 3-4 times a year, and only wheeling.

Keeping my drive flanges for the harder wheeling spots and for just in case in the tool box.

I want to hear everyone's opinions on what's currently available in the 40" tire for 17" wheels.

I plan to get a set of red labels for the woods.

Looking into procomp mt2,maxxis creepys, razrs, Toyo, nitto, for street and light wheeling.

What is yalls experience with these both on/Offroad.

Thanks, Scott

For the price, the ProComps are hard to beat!

Two things...
Buy my Treps and Racelines :D

Don't overlook the Nitto Trail Grapplers. I've seen their DOT version do very, very well in typical southern terrain.

How much are those? I haven't ever thought to look. I need some more 40s for my CUCV soon so I can start driving it again. I used to have 40" Xterrains/H2s on it and loved them.

I found the Toyo somewhere for $426 but I can't remember where.

The Nitto and Toyo sidewalls are very strong in my experience, never had a problem in the 37,s. The Mtz I have seen serve alot of people well.
I'd say none of those would be a bad choice.

My ttailgrapplers on trail gear headlocks have no balancing at all and ran down the interstate yesterday at 70 mph smooth as butter.

Being that the prices are all writhing $30 of each other, makes the choice a bit more difficult.

Leaning towards Toyo or nitto currently over the pro comps.

Can anyone tell me if the 40" dot version has the same sidewall as the K-specs? I'm thinking that is does, and that it differs slightly that the smaller nittos.

Just curious as I haven't seen the dot nittos in person to confirm. I imagine they change the rubber compound to make the k-specs but use the same molds for both. In my mine it would be silly/ expensive to have a separate mold entirely for the k-spec.

I haven't taken my current 37" creepies out on the street yet, but I did run 38.5" creepies for a year or two. They would take about a mile for the bias ply flat spots to round out, but after that, I could run them down the interstate with no issues. For a daily driver they probably aren't the best choice, but for mostly off road and occasional street trips they are great. Which is why I bought them again this go round.

After rereading your first post, I don't see Creepies as a street and light wheeling tire, more like wheeling and light street tire. They are awesome off road, and fine on the street, but they are better options out there. Maxxis has a new MT radial that looks awesome, you may wanna add it to your list.

I would mainly drive about 2 miles on the street to and from work, and mostly Offroad.

It's definitely for more street, but I'm going to wheel with these until I can a set of stickys to swap out just for the woods.

Thanks for your opinion and info on the creepys.

They look perfect for me other than the price. Looking at a few used sets currently for sale.

If I buy new, I probably won't buy creepys just bc of the price difference.

I was gonna suggest eBay, but I decided to look for myself first. 37" Creepies can be had for $360, but the 40s are $540

I know a buddy of mine running the Toyo 38" on 2010 mega cab and they ride nice even at 80 mph he has 30kish on them and I'd say they are a 2/3 gone all highway driving too I've had it on job sites in clay mud and no slippage with 12k trailer behind it! They did seem to hydroplane a little in deeper standing water at 60mph can't speak for em on rocks tho.

Just want to clarify what I have found.

The 40" dot nittos are what I have images of above.

The pic that I thought was of a k-spec is really a pic of a dot Tire.

The best price per Tire I have found is through goforth Tire.

However I would have to pickup in tn, to get below $1800.

The next best price is thru dicount tire direct as there is no shipping and no tax at $1810.

Next is shipping through goforth and that is $1826.

I did find how to get the procomps new for $1400 so that's my biggest comparison at the moment.

Pro comps at $1400
Nittos at $1800.

Stickys for $2000ish lol :stir pot:

A late contender that someone mentioned above is the maxxis razr mt.

I've ran both the Trail Grappler and Toyo MT, granted not on any of my trail rigs - just my work trucks.

I see that you're in Rocky Mount; you should give Thomas Tire a call in Asheboro and see what price they will do on them. My Toyos were supposed to be about $360 a tire; they ended up being around $290.

Recently drove to Canada and back, then to Chicago and back on the Toyos. They're a good tire. I like the TG just as much I'd say; really comes down to aesthetics IMO. Just my 2 cents.

According to a similar thread on Pirate (take as you will) they indicate that the Toyos work well on heavy trucks but are too stiff on other stuff.

I could see that tread feeling compared to my bfg they are a lot harder!

I think the ProComps have a slightly softer compound if that means anything I have seen them in the 40" version work very well on a well built JKU. I personally ran the 37's on my Ram and was very happy with them. I ran the 40" Toyo's on my JKU for a while and they worked well all around. They are not going to hook up like the SX2's though. In all honesty how much are you going to run them on the road. I have around 3000 miles on my 42" Reds and they still look like new.
