I've heard different stories about reusing the original carrier when re gearing so I thought I get some opinions here. I'll be going from factory 3.73s to 4.56s in a Tj d44. Thanks,

I got a set of 4.88s made by Yukon. IIt's just a regular gear with 1/4 inch more thickness in the ring to move it closer to the pinion. The only problem is its heavier. I have seen street cars use spacers behind the gears to keep from having to buy new carriers.
 
Are the Rubi gears different from standard Dana 44 gears? If so what is the difference?
 
I have precision 4.88 gears in my factory d44 carrier, and everything is fine
