So I went with a friend to go get a 4bt yesterday and when we got there I could instantly tell the KDP fell out. So I pulled the timing cover couldn't find the PIN but all the gears seem to be in great shape. You could see where it was forced over the cam gear then seemed to disappear.

After inspecting as much as we could we concluded that's it was fine. (still yet to be determined But we got it for a good deal so if it needs a block we at least don't have much in it.)

Now a few questions...

The 2 gears to the left of the crank, is that the oil pump or?

Any good shops in the Charlotte are to rebuild it? I'm thinking we will tear it down and have the machine shop build a long block?

Are all the timing gear cases the same? Considering the aftermarket one from pure diesel power i think, any opinions on it? ( At least on the P -pump engines.)

Might start a build as time goes on, were starting with the engine, haven't even considered what to put it in yet.

The timing gear case must have a oil drain path to the pan? Maybe pin is in the pan or came out of it on last oil change? Can't help with your other questions.
