Have a '97 4L60E in my YJ. It is leaking, and I believe it is leaking at the shaft that goes into the the side of the tranny to change gears. Does anybody know if there is a seal there that can easily be changed? Anybody got any drawings or manuals on the 4L60E?

IIRC, the pan and the valvebody most likely? Might not need the VB, but certainly the pan.

:stupid:
Actually Im pretty sure the VB has to come out....

I've only dropped the pan once before; that was a couple years ago before I had the tranny rebuilt. Is the valvebody the part that looks like a rat-maze with ball bearings in it?

yes....BE CAREFUL

Yes and there are checkballs on top of the valvebody that fall out(5 or 6?) when you take the valve body out. Also there are 3 different length bolts and installing the wrong ones in the wrong place will LOCK the gear train.
The leaking shaft seal is a problem on the 4l60e/4l80e, so much that this http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...&group_ID=1617&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog
tool is made to change it without even draining the fluid. (i have one)
