I'm running a 2002 4l80e 2x4 model in the jeep. Obviously I was in need of a floor mount shifter so to save some coin I bought this: http://m.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-80775 which claims its for a 4l80 along with many others. Its pretty much a traditional style Bowel&Movement shifter with cable, shifter arms and hardware. For some reason it does not seem to want to act right. I've adjusted the cable many times usually starting in "park" position on the trans and manually checking the locations every gear on both trans and shifter to make sure it lines up but this one doesn't seem too. I even ordered a different arm to see if that did it. It feels like the detents in the shifter are different than trans and I fear that it can damage the trans by getting caught between shifts. So do I modify the shifter to work (ie, grind the detent notches out slightly larger) or bite the bullet and buy a new shifter?

See if they sell a common gate for the 4l80 GM pattern....typically this is the downfall of a universal automatic shifter - not being model specific

I have a TCI Outlaw in my 03 dodge, and bought a GM/Chrysler 3-speed plate for it..ended up having to add a teensie rectangular insert in the Park detent section to keep it from overextending the cable.
