Ok so I am new to the 4x4 world but I have been a member on this forum for about a year and I have been able to find most answers to my questions by searching. There are two questions I have not been able to find an answer to yet so I'm hoping someone can help.

Ride:
97 4Runner, 3.4
3” Revtek lift
285/75/16 BFG MT

First I just had the frontend aligned and noticed (as did the mechanic) my front CV drive axels need to be replaced. Is there a good aftermarket replacement for front CV drive axels other than RCV? Before everyone jumps in with SAS it (which I may consider) CV axels are simple to replace and most of the time not too expensive. I am not into the rock crawling (yet). I hate to get stuck and do drive it hard off road when hunting, trail riding so I want something strong.

Second my runner has that rear sag issue that many have. I have already had the recall correct the springs and that helped for about 2 weeks. I know I could add the OME 891 springs and that should match the lift height I have in the front but I have read mixed reviews on how well they work. Is there a good alternative IE springs of a XYZ fits and cures the problem as well as allow more flex?

Thanks for your help.

OEM Toyota CVs are the best IMO. I think O'Reilly auto parts has some lifetime warranty shafts, but I have heard that they arent as strong as OEM.

I have an older runner with leaves, but I think some of the landcruiser coils will work on your runner (research). Check out www.TTORA.com

I also have a '97, I use my Runner to tow our 3500 lb camper, 350lb(ish) tongue

no load, it had the typical butt sag, loaded, it sure didn't get better.

I bought a pair of coils off RockAuto MOOG 81041 constant rate springs for 16" wheel

My Runner was OEM 15" and I have put 16" wheels on ( w/ 245/75 rubber ) also replaced the rear shocks with KYB GasAjust and, just to cover what the coils may not be able too, a pair of Firestone airbags.

the bags are currently @4psi, the coils more than handle the load of the camper, and unloaded it looks like I have approx 1.5" lift in the rear. ( the bags have no effect on the height )

it rides pretty damn well loaded or unloaded, much better than the stock stuff ( which were also the "recall replacement " coils.

the coils were $40 plus shipping. I will be doing the front very soon. ( struts and coils )

how well this will play with the Revtech stuff, it shouldn't be an issue.

as for the CV boot, any significant constant angle will work the CV boots and can cause premature failure. worse on the third gens as they are turning all the time, age of the boots is a factor as well

Thanks for the good info so far. I will check into the MOOG rear springs.

I did look into the landcruiser spring but it looks like they use leaf sprins.

'Crusier springs come out of the FJ/FZJ 80's they are coil, but are considerably taller, I know they are a good option to lift a 2nd gen Runner , have never heard nor tried on a 3rd gen. I gave a pair to Chase at ECGS a few years ago to put in his, raised the rear of his 2nd gen 4+"
