I have a 1998 toyota 4 runner. it has close to 200,000 miles and while driving down the highway I get some vibrations. The tires have about 20k on them and i had just got them balanced and rotated the other day. It did get better when i had that done but still not as smooth as it should be. I don't know if it could we the tires are not worn evenly? or what. I fell the vibes in my seat and also steering wheel?

also when i hit my breaks the steering wheel shakes, On that point i think it might be warped roters but i am not sure. Any ideas would be good.

Where would you start to figure this out?

My tires are Hankook All terrains. stock size. no lift everything stock.

Check the ball joints and tierods...

And odds are your rotors are warped. Pull them off and have them turned. When I bought my '97 4runner they were so bad I thought the wheels were going to fall off! Had them turned and it was smooth, then after a while they warped again. Replaced them with Toyota rotors and they did the same thing. I am not hard on my brakes at all, I use the trans to slow me down etc. The pads weren't even half worn out when they warped the last time. I've since gone to Advance brakes and down in size to brakes for one with 15 in tires, (So I could fit 15 inch wheels and existing tires) and so far so good. Only been about 2k miles though.

If the wheels aren't tightened up properly (i.e. one lug nut run in tight before the others) it will cause a vibration just like that. Loosen lug nuts, jack up the wheels, and slowly tighten each lug nut "evenly" in cross pattern.

Search "Tundra Brake Swap" on Yotatech or any major Yota site and you will have the answer to warped rotors. If your tie rods/ball joints/alignment are all ok then my guess is a sticking caliper that isnt letting the pad release completely. If your rotors are warped this can be part of the issue too. Went through the same thing on my 99 a few years ago. Tundra brakes and proper alignment and its still running strong for the guy I sold it to.
