So im lookin at possibly gettin a 4wheeler sometime soon.
been lookin at the yamaha grizzly 400 with the irs and i really like it. Anyone have any other opinions/options/make and models to look at?

I have a Honda Rancher, full time 4wd.

I dont like the feel if the IRS rides especially at speed they get a bit "floaty"

I like my Rancher andd at $3900 its hard to beat.

Of course mine is a work horse not a ride for fun trail rig, so depending on usage YMMV

X2 on the honda.... I have had and rode all different brands..

I say go with a Honda or Yamaha.. I prefer a manual, so for me itd be the Yamaha BigBear.. or the Honda Foreman... Rancher is a good one too, but a lil more basic i believe...

have used ones like these 2 around the farm/house as well as riding on the trails

Yeah whatever i look at gettin is gonna be more for riding and taking to URE rather than workin with. But i do want to stick with a yamaha, but like i said am open to other brands.

Get the bigger 600 Grizzly...you will like to power and I think they have power steering.

I had a Suzuki Quadmaster 500 that I beat the dog crap out of it and it when right on...and it had 28's!!!

Polaris

Hey man good pic. But I've grown fond of Polaris. My Dad is on his 2nd. Auto. 4wd works great. One brake lever works both brakes. It is real cheap to rebuild if needed. Honda cost some bucks for repair. Polaris use to have a poor tranny but real good now on that belt. The guy in High Point is the best.

You can find the new '07 Big Bears cheap. Most get them for 5500. It all depends on where you get it. They have a few new features that the older ones like I have don't. IRS, they come stock with MudLite tires, front diff lock, and a few other little odds and ends that really make them a capable machine in any terrain.:driver:

Also, the new 700 Grizzlys are cool and they have EPS.

Yeah im just not lookin for much more then a 400 honestly cause well im not gonna be racing the thing but still open to options if i can have my mind changed

get a wolverine 4x4. it is a 350 6 speed with reverse. bad atv. they don't so much make them any more. but that is what i would get if i were buying. sporty 4x4

The newer Honda's are nice but the quality isn't there like the older ones. I had an 87 and a 97 and hands down the 87 was 10x the machine, power and performance wise of the 97 and both were 250's. I now have a suzuki kinda quad and it's nice. Riides and handles well but I have the same problems with it that I do the bigger size Grizzly's kawasaki's ect. There just to big. I've been in alot of places with mine even with the bigger tires that the bigger ATV's just don't perform as well as a stock size smaller 400 or so will. I'd like to get a 450 Yamaha Kodiak or a smaller 400 Grizzly. UNless you can actually justify having the size of the bigger ATV I think you'd be hapy with a mid size in the 400 to 500 range

I had a 450 kodiak and absolutely loved it. I never should have sold it. With the diff lock that thing was a beast. I took it many places i never should have been and pulled right through. Never had a single problem and i had it in mud and water over the seat, tranny belt never slipped or anything. I would definatly suggest taking a look at them. Put a set of good mud tires on it and hammer it.

Have only owned honda and yamaha, but used plenty on the farm. My choice would be a yamaha, though...if it's a quad for working or hunting--don't go with a quad at all. An old samurai/rocky/or the like is far more practical and capable, not to mention far cheaper. And not much larger than today's fullsize quads..

Whatever you do don't get a Rubicon.

I bought one because I had a mid 80's honda that was indestructible and I thought another honda would be the way to go. In the year i owned it with less than 1000 miles, I had to replace 3 sensors. I didn't feel it was a reliable machine, so I sold it.

the only 4x4 quad on the market I would get would be a 700FI grizz with power steering or a Outlander 800XT for the power. I've ridden a lot of quads and this is the two best 4x4's I've been on. now for the 2wd I would either pick the Z400/KFX400 or the Raptor700. I have the KFX and it will out handle just about every quad on the market but the raptor is faster.

this is my buddys old grizz one of the meanest quads I've been on.
