4x4 trails in WS?

Uwharrie is your best bet. Not sure how far in mileage, but its near Troy (in Eldorado, actually).

It'ds about a 1.5 hr drive from Winston, straight down 109.
Unless you get stuck behind Grandma or Farmer Joe taking their sweet time, in which case it can be a apianful 3 hours lol.

there used to be some fun trails on ,believe it or not,Hanes mall blvd. You could drive through 3 sets of tunnels and come out on 421. it was cool. billion dollar land has been developed now though. Also used to be some wheeling off of spraug st.i dont know about now .

none of that was ever legal though.

You can be at Uwharrie in an hour or less depending on where in winston you are. I take 52 to the lexington exit, take a left at the top of the ramp, catch I85 just the other side of lexington heading toward ashborro, take you second exit and run that road till you see 109 and run 109 till you get to Eldorado outpost. All said you can be there in under an hour if you dont get stuck behind traffic.

Define legal.....the owner of the mercedes dealership owned the land at hanes mall blvd. he had a 4 wheeler down there one day while i was wheeling.. he followed us around through tunnels and all. he never said not to wheel, but he did introduce himself as property owner and told of the impending property developement.he wasnt wheeling as much as just looking over his billions worth of dirt..

if you don't have written permission then you can't assume that it is legal to wheel ASS U ME:fuck-you:

Does this route really take only an hour?
I've not tried it, by map it's more direct to just to 40 to 109 (@clemmonsville rd) then do 109 the whole way.

You know where I live and it only takes me about an hour and fifteen minutes. I take a little bit diferent route than Chad though. 40 east to 52 south to 64 east to 109 south and down.

40 to 109 the whole way sucks.... not many places to pass slow people, and especially if you are teh slightest bit underpowered.

Speeding a little in a car leaving from the clemmons area, i can make it in just under an hour.

Same way I go, except I normally keep goin on past there to get to my hunt club in troy.

Holy crap, so now I know that this weekend I just wasted a good hour of my life that I'll never get back. Yeesh.
I live in Lewisville, so I'd think the trek is about the same as from Clemmons.
May have to make a trip this Saturday just to test it out.

A few days ago I decided to see if things were different and went to Uwharrie by way of 40 east to 109 south through T-ville to Eldorado, and yes, it took 40 minutes longer than 52 south to NC 8 (at Tom's 4WD) to 29/70/64 east (at McD's) to 64 to Clarksbury Church Road to 109 south to Eldorado. If anything, going through T-ville is worse than it used to be.

From Clemmons, I might try Hampton Road to 150 (Arcadia) and across to Welcome, then down old NC 8 into Lexington and across 64, etc.

It takes me about 5 - 10 minutes longer to cut across on Hampton Rd to 150 and then over to Welcome using Hoover as I do some evening/weekend weekend work in Welcome. Same with heading down 801 to 64 and across (I live in Advance).

I go to the end of the street, turn left, and get to the outpost in about 50 min. Easiest directions ever. other ways may be faster, but 109S all the way is too simple to screw up, and sometimes I want to be lazy.

When driving a lifted 4x4, speed isn't my prime concern.

That way is about as fast from lewisville and keeps off the interstates, but I normally only go that way when I want to eat at the Lexington BBQ right on 64 there.

OK, I admit it: BBQ was the reason I like to go Hampton Rd-NC150-West Center St Extension, too, but what the hell, it ain't bad avoiding any part of W-S traffic either.

I"m in Lewisville too.... It takes us about 1:15 to make it to Eldorado, and trust me when I say we dont fly on the way...
The CJ7 doesnt exactly handle like a sports car.

WE go 40E to 52S to 8 thru Lexington to 64E to 109S.

Usually stop for gas in Denton on the way down, and for ice cream on the way back....

The tow truck driver that hauled me home last time told me it was 74 miles...(He had to keep track)

Pete
