Looking at buying a 4x4 Utility quad. I don't have a lot of preference, just 300cc or larger and 4x4. There are so many out there I have no idea what I'm looking at. What are your opinions let's say in the $3,000 or less range. Will be using for general riding, small trailer pulling, etc.

Honda rancher 420cc. Several of the guys I rode with had them, and they're the best bang for the buck, and you can still get foot shift. They've got great power for their size/weight and and still small enough it doesn't feel like you're riding a suburban in the woods.

I ride a honda rancher 350, Love it, Fast and mean, Will climb anything, I ride it like its not supposed to be, Fast and hard. Love it. Only bad thing about the honda's are the brakes, they dont like to stop, but the thing runs like a scalded dog, and will do anything go anywhere. And you can fix the brake deal, its just the major pain. Other than that, they fly and they are awesome.

Nice, keep the input coming. I've looked at dozens of quads online. I've even found some older fourtrax 300s that are in near perfect condition and I've heard you can't kill those things. If I decide I want something bigger later on I can get one and let my wife ride the smaller one. Do you guys have the IRS models or swingarm?

Im still running a swing arm, 2003 350 Rancher ES, by the way, the ES is the BOMB, no wet feet in deep water, LOL. The old 300s are tough as nails, the 4x4s and the 2x4s, I advise go on and look at a 4x4 model just so that you have it when you need it. I like the solid rear axle, you cant kill it nearly as easy as you can the CV joints in an independent system. That being said that is a case of to each his own and that is my personal feelings and preference. You will be supprised of the power just a 300 has. Im 6'4" 340 and my rancher will FLY even with it just being a 350.

I may have a deal on a 98 Foreman 400. It belonged to my cousin's best friend and has only been farm ridden, is in excellent condition. One of my buddies had one back in the day and it was awesome. I like the simplicity of it, however, it is still a foot manual. But, for the deal I'm getting I can use it for now and have it as a second quad if I ever upgrade. This will at least get me the transport/utility that I need for this summer.

You'll like the foot shift, at least I do. The irs models seem to ride better, but if I prefer the swing arm feel around the turns. If you get a great deal on an irs model, forget my previous statement. If you like to just push the throttle and go, don't push away an automatic. The earlier years seem to be terds, but they've seem to have gotten it right now.
