some of us thinkin of doing a day trip as a precursor to the July 1st thru 4th trip up to Mountain City.Anyone else game?

Having our Meet and Greet that day, will try to wheel with you guys at some point though.

I might be interested, I have been wanting to give it a try. What sort of rigs will be going? Just finished the lift on my kj (liberty) last weekend but not much experience. Would like to start off on some easier trails but wouldn't want to slow anyone down.

Exploderpilot...you are more than welcome to fall in with us.RenegadeK I drive a stock 1950 Willys and the group builds from there.Don't worry about slowing the group down. Just come on and we will have a good time

I'll be out there all weekend at AH #3. I'll try to hook up with you guys

I think I will be there on Sat for a shake down run on the rig.

I believe myself and my grandson will make an appearance (Sat only) for this one. We will hopefully be at the Outpost around 8-8:30 am. If you see us, please don't be bashful. :)

our plans are to be at the outpost around 8 and hitting the trails promptly at 9.Don,I'll be on my older model F350 crew/ut.bed with Nellie Belle on a trailer.

I'll be there, Sun/Mon, camping out. We'll have a few rigs.

great day wheeling.Don and Steve, thanks for tagging along with us.I hope our mix of straight trail riding and then putting in a trail ride with obstacles showed our desire to cover all aspects for EVERYONE on a ride.
We had 8 rigs in total ranging from my stock Willys up to Steve and Don's built rigs.Started of doing Dickie Belle to shake out the cobwebs. No issues here other than an over heated and leaking tranny in a cj7.that issue was cared for and finnished out at the double parking lot.Ran RML up to Kodak to play over the ledge of which most did and then play at Kodak.I struggled just a little working around the ledge and the fj cruiser had to be straped over after becoming high centered on it but that is part of the fun.
After some playtime on Kodak,we took the big loop around to do Dutch John with a lot of time spent just riding along enjoying the great outdoors.Finnished back up at the double parking lot again. No issues at all on this nice long relaxing drive.
It was now 4pm and we had discussed doing Daniel from both directions. After Steve called me a girlie man and twisted my arm a bit,I decided to run up the hill with them.I gotta try that new locker sometime. Then Sandy wanted to do it too since she is sporting a new engine.Well long story short we ALL went to cotton place and went up hill.Only pulled strap one time and that was to get the cj7 onto the first ledge since his carb was acting up.With good spotting , good directions, and in my case just a little rock stacking,we all made it up Daniel in good fashion. It was a good way to finnish out the day.
I'm terrible with names but this was our group yesterday:

Me (ord.sgt.26NC) 1950 Willys M38 with
Rox/mud,zjmom,and their son riding along since their rigs are all either in a state of repair or being built.
Don (granny) and his grand son on his lifted/stretched cj5
Steve(89wrngler) nicely modified yj
Sandy(sandyw) red yj on 33s
A friend of Sandy's and his daughter on a cj7 on 35s
expoderpilot on his nice Late model 4runner on 32s
Tom/friend(tlucier) and his fancy smancy tj nicely modified
and a couple on a fj cruiser that came with exploderpilot.Very nice folks and very good working slightly modified rig.
Now time to get geared up for Callalente July 4th weekend. Thanks again to all that rode on this day trip.

Nice write up, Jim!

I had a great time! I ran into some old friends I hadn't seen in some time, and hopefully made some new ones... it just doesn't get any better than that.

My grandson (first time out) had quite a tale to tell his Dad when we got back home. Daniel worried him enough that he opted to walk rather than ride, but a couple more trips should take care of that.

Definitely looking forward to doing it again! :driver:

Jimmy,
I had a great time riding around with you all. Great bunch of folks in the group. Was nice to see new folks getting into the sport (although I am not sure I could wheel a new rig like that..lol) Was a perfect day for wheeling. I hope to have my XJ on 33's done for the next trip which should produce more "fun" at URE. Thnaks for letting me tag along!

I'd like to thank Chad and Sandy for making room for Nicholai and I to still be able to make the trip and to Jimmy for toting us down and letting Xenia ride with him in Nellie. We had a great time riding and talking with everyone and are looking forward to Callalantee on July 4th.
