I spent some time in Sri Lanka earlier this month, building some houses with Habitat for Humanity (and doing some touristy stuff on the weekends). I thought y'all might get a kick out of some of the stuff they drive over there.
Daihatsu
Bolero Maxitruck. These came in a few formats. Box trucks, pickup trucks, and some had enclosed cabs with 4 seats.
Hand tractor - not 4x4 but surprisingly capable. They would stack these wagons full of coconuts, lumber, cement etc and pull them all over town.
Landcruiser
Toyota Hilux
Oldschool Landrover - these things were everywhere around the hill country and the nature preserves. They make a killing off of tourists (like me) who come out in search of elephants.
Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero) "Turbo Wagon"
There's a growing offroad racing series in Sri Lanka called the Taprobana 4x4 Challenge. The owner of this Landcruiser claimed to have won a race earlier that day.
Mitsubishi Jeep - these were everywhere.
