I bought this engine off of craigslist to swap into my YJ. I started tearing it down for a rebuild and when I removed the heads I noticed this crack along the coolant passages. Do you guys think there's any chance of getting this repaired or is the block junk now? Also it's out of a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 5.2l v8 318
Thanks!

Clean all of the gasket material off and make sure it's actually a crack.

Depending on how far the cracks went down into the holes. I'd say if I could dig it all out, I'd have a pretty smooth chance of TIG'ing it up.

But like I said everything would be judged around how far the crack goes directly downward into the walls.

I've never seen one the I thought had a chance but this one is a decent 'maybe.

Hot tank it. It's a common block though. I would not spend much time or money on it.

Yeah, unfortunately it is an actual crack. The cracks go all the way through the head surface? I guess that's what you could call it.
Hopefully these pictures can clear it up a bit and help to see how far down the cracks go.

Idk if they are the same or not but I have a 5.2 from a 95 grand cherokee. Bought complete jeep that had been rolled. Guy I bought it from said it ran and drove before roll but I have never personally heard it run but if interested I'd take $100 for complete motor with accessories.

assuming that is the only damage to the block,

this is just the stuff you can see easily, are there other cracks ? I'd certainly remove all casting/freeze plugs and oil gallery plugs tank and steam clean then magna flux or dye chem for other cracks before I'd put any money into welding that mess.

then after it's welded, you'll need to have the deck surfaced for square and smooth for proper gasket sealing.

I've seen a lot of things "saved" but most were not easily replaceable if at all to make it worth the time and cost.

Yeah, I don't think I want to spend anymore money on this block i'm probably going to buy another engine off of Curtis_H.
I'll just keep the other usable parts for spares or sell them later on.
