Anyone own of have owned a 5.4 4wd F-250 that wants to comment of how they liked or disliked the truck??

With a young son I want the room of the Super Duty but I just can not swing the $$ of the diesel.

Thanks:beer:

I owned a excursion with a 5.4. No complaints what so ever except fuel milage. got about 10-11mpg around town, 12 -13 highway. I towed the YJ with it a few time and did OK for what it was. I would not consider it tow engine, but for all aroung use a good one.

I would recommend never driving a diesel truck before getting one or after getting one. If you don't know what your missing then you won't be disappointed. That being said. My dad had an F-350 w/ a 5.4 in it. We have towed some stuff mostly Jeeps and a full size Bronco. It did fine. Plenty of power for pulling both of those.

I have a 07 6.0 crewcab 4x4 and a 03 5.4 F250 extended cab 4x4, when pulling my brothers xj from wilmington on our 28' gooseneck the 5.4 was not happy, had plenty of power but when you have to run 70mph that thing isnt happy. Tow the xj to uwharrie, going 55 does fine. 6.0 handles the load alot more! The torqshift transmission is made for pulling, work on 6.0's every day, know they have problems but if you had to choose between a 5.4 and 6.0, go with 6.0, with programmer around town I get about 14.5 mpg's the best the 5.4 got was 11 downhill with a tailwind, 6.0 20mpg on highway, 5.4 15 at best!

5.4 ext cab lwb 250 4x4 with 16 ft trailor and 50 hp tractor or mini hoe is all it wonts. Good brakes will get the job done but not the best. About the same milage as neighbors v10 towing. Chevy 6.0 in friends truck pulls much better.

I've driven one with an f-250 crew cab 2wd and utility bed w/ the 5.4. It hauled around 25 gallons of diesel and it wouldn't get out of its own way. Thing was a piece. Only had about 55k on it and the trans was already going too. I am by no means a ford guy, but I would definitely suggest the diesel route instead.

If i had to tow with a gas truck it would be a hemi dodge my work truck up until last week was a 2005 hemi 2500 15 around town but thats in flat florida & around 11 towing 8000 pounds
