Those of you that have 5 (4) point harnesses....what do you do on the highway? Lap and shoulders, or lap only? Do you avoid the Dale Earnhart wanna-be look?

My Jeep gets a just a few on-road miles a year. Don't wanna look stoopid. :)

Last guy in a Jeep that I saw wearing a full harness on the road was on 40's, on the stock 35/20. Mall-rated, of course. He was at the stoopid end of poseur.

So, is it :huggy: or :gay: ??

The DMV says as long as its better than the factory harness its street legal so take it for what its worth. I would say using the shoulders and lap is fine if you dont want to use the crotch strap. Technically the factory in most vehicles is 3 point so I dont see you catching any hell for having the 4pt on.

Wear just the lap belt then the DMV inspector I spoke to here told me equilvalent or better than factory. Cause I street the drag car from time to time.

I'll admit to often times wearing just the lap belt, or a lap belt snug and the shoulder harnesses with a little slack in them..

Before I did the buggy & the center console, there was no way I could reach anything except the turn signal stalk while belted in fully.

4-points are a pain in the ass on the street. In Germany I had a set of Schroth harnesses in a BMW that has a retrator reel on the shoulder harness to allow for some movement.. nice setup. Dunno if I'd want 'em on a wheeling rig though, I don't remember being able to lock the reel manually.

Im not sure if this would work with your jeep, but a bunch of guys that run dune buggies have a five point for hardcore stuff, and a set of factory style three points for driving around on the street.

Check the product data on your harnesses...

most I've seen clearly state they are not made for road/street driving...

Don't know if it really matters though...

that's just to feed the lawyers.

I think it may be summit that has a retractor for the shoulder straps....i think it locks, too. I'll have to find it again.
