Which models was that available in? And is it any stouter than the 4500? I've heard few good things about the Chevy NV4500. Seems every one I come across is grinding or popping out of gears.

88-99 no it's not as stout as a nv4500.
the 4500 is a good tranny, hard to find and expensive, but still a good trans. they are a little noisey but usually not enough to matter over our engines.
