5 speed Xj tcase ? difference?

I bought a 98 Xj with 4.0 and,i assume ax 15 np231, i know its a stock setup
I need to swap the tcase cause the shaft is warp and chain is shot,


All i can get a hold of is an auto np231 , whats the difference In the two cases?

I don't think it matters auto/manual, I could be wrong. The year of the t-case does matter though...up to 1990, they are 21-spline input, compared to the 23-spline used 91 and up (4.0L HO). Now that I think about it, I have no clue what they used with 4-banger XJs.

wait a minute...I was thinking 21/23-spline transmission input. sorry, nevermind ops:

Looks like its the lenght of the imput shaft sleeve ,is longer on the ax15 case but same splines
