55 years ago today

wow I also had no idea. Thank you for teaching me something, and thank you to those whose lives were lost.

My wife's grandfather was the commander of the skylark. My mother in law said that period afterwards nearly killed him. We have a piece of the skylarks flag framed in our living room.
Can't imagine being there and listening to this happen and being totally helpless. Their lives brought about major changes in new construction and repair of the boats. Systems were put in place to keep this from happening again. I've spent some time at test depth. Some of the most serious times of my life. It's an all crew event. You ease your way down, pause for a moment, then ease your way back up. I thank the Thresher crew for making my life safer.

Thanks for sharing about this. I spent a good portion of the past 24hrs reading about the Thresher and related submarine incidents.

It's aweful but fascinating. I read everything I find about it. I read up on it for several nights after my wife told me where that bit of flag came from when we were dating.
