So in December 2016 I bought this truck as a project and have finally decided on a donor for the drivetrain. The Idea is to make it into a medium hauler as well as a plow truck for the winter here in the mountains.

Was that sitting at the edge of some woods at the edge of a field in the Charlotte area off the 485 ring? If not, it has a twin.

1980 M1008 (D30)
6.2l Detroit Diesel
NV4500 5 speed trans
NP208 Chain Drive Transfer Case
Dana 60 Front Axle 4.56 Yukon /w chrome moly shafts
14 Bolt Rear Axle 4.56 Yukon /w chrome moly shafts
Custom front and rear drive shafts

I have a turbo plenum to bolt on in place of the stock, looking for a whistler to top it off.

Save yourself some headache and leave a turbo off the 6.2, they don't like boost if you work them hard.
Even better idea is to get any diesel no matter the brand that isn't the 6.2, 6.5 or idi 7.3.

Ehh, 6.2 will work just fine if it's built right (which this one is), and I've been in this one with a whistler on it and it performs great.

Ive toyed with a similiar idea. There was a 57 chevy 2 ton but was standard cab for sale a while back. old apple truck I guess. I had forgotten about seeing this truck on here til passed your house on the way to ck supply yesterday. Keep up the good work. I'll live vicariously thru other's projects and progress....

Also Moved the COE next to the Chevrolet:

And removed the front axle from the COE:

Next step is removing engine, and trans from the COE and cleaning up frame rails and painting. Good news is that the spring perches on the Dana 60 match the spring locations on the COE... no cutting and welding perches on the fron, just on the rear.

are you keeping the COE's springs or swapping those from the K30? Also, are you going to try and lower it any? The factory axle had a big drop in it, so I suspect you will get a ton of "lift" with the swap.

Planning to keep the COE springs, should be roughly 4" of lift. If it looks like too much I'll relocate the spring hangers, but that can be done later if needed.

If I got home this afternoon and one of you "spectators" stripped the engine and transmission out of the COE, I would not be the least upset...

Well, since none of the spectators could make it by to do this for me, I did it Thursday night...

Today was front axle swap in:

And it is bolted in:

My wife helped as much as she could and I really appreciate her! Tomorrow, hopefully I can get front drive shaft, transfer case, and crossmember in...
