I got an EGR code on the way to Harlan and back a couple times last weekend. My fuel mileage went to crap. EOT and ECT's are perfect. Coolant is spotless and recently flushed. I think all I need to do is delete the EGR crap. I don't want to spend a fortune on this. Anybody interested in doing it reasonably or recommend someone to do it within reason? I can help or we can do it at my shop. I have tools and beer. I'll also drive to get it done.

you didnt mention mileage, but if its fine otherwisie....you can pop it and clean it and you IAT sensor...or probably more worthwhile. Drop $150 on a new egr and swap the valve out. The swap takes maybe 15 minutes.

All the cool kids say to delete it...but maintained properly the EGR system isnt that bad.

Pull the egr cooler and plug it with freeze plugs at both ends and put it back in. Cost like $5 and some hours.

yeah until you blow the oil cooler....

i thought you were advocating blocking the coolant flow.
but still i wpuldnt dead had the exhaust flow either.
you need to either manitain the system and let is function as designed or remove it entiely and eliminate the exhaust dump as well imho.

Why even worry about just blocking it when you can buy a delete kit for 200? I would pop a coolant filter on it as well. Ford considers oil cooler replacement mandatory with a egr cooler failure but if your temps are fine I guess its okay but why not if your tearing it down?
Let me know if I can help with parts.

if your egr failed its 100% the oil coolers fault. If you just delete your egr, your oil temperatures will remain high, i.e over 215*. The only reason you Egr fails is because your coolant side of your oil cooler has been clogged with Ford Gold coolant, in turn allowing your egr to overheat and fail. So i would advise, and so would Ford, to replace your oil cooler also. Call Rudy's Performance Diesel is Durham, NC. They will help you out at a good price.

I think everything is working fine. My EGR valve was just caked up with soot. The guys on my Powerstroke forum all say it appears to be normal. I cleaned it and all is fine for now. But still, I want to prevent the cooler from failing and then all the BS that could follow that. All of my temps are perfect by Ford's specs. Truck runs great. I just want to delete the EGR crap, add a coolant filter, and get an SCT tuner. If it ever comes down to pulling the heads. this thing is gone. I can get delete kits all day long for $150ish. I'm looking for somebody to install it reasonably or help me do it. I have better than average mechanical skills but I'm a little intimidated by a diesel for some reason. I know that somebody that's done it before can knock it out in 3-4 hours. NCB Diesel is literally 1 block from me, but their prices are a little scary.

Its really a very easy job. Just make sure you have the intake set and turbo install set. Its also great if you can have the intake hot washed or dipped. If you have basic hand tools and the ability you say you wont need any help. You'll need a torque wrench that goes low in the in-lb scale for the intake. I still swear by changing the oil cooler. Not to mention, chances are the plastic screen is falling apart already.

your ass backwards..the high heat of the egr coolr gels the coolant and that clogs the oil cooler. not the other way around.
You need a good coolant, but color is irrelevant...hell I run pink coolant.

And before anyone laughs it's what Cummins recommends in any egr appliation vehicle.
works for me
