Anyone have suggestions on what brand? If I do it, its going to be a full delete, not block off plates or welding it up...

Anyone have issues with the p401 code after?

Its going on an 04 F350.

disclaimer: I don't plan on driving it on public roads. off road only :)

Any of the kits are all about the same I've used almost every brand. I usualy leave the egr solenoid valve bolted in the intake and plugged into the harness but with the egr cooler removed and the ports blocked it just opens to nothing but the computer still sees it there and thinks its working.

On some of the newer trucks I believe its 05 and up the up pipe that the egr cooler plumbs into has a small scoop on the inside to "scoop" exhaust into the cooler, you will want to remove that for better flow in the up pipe and a few people have said that it has scooped so much hot exhaust against their aluminum blockoff plate that it melted a hole in it.

I use performance machine or flow pro at the shop. Make sure you check your oil temps before tearing it down, might as well put one in it at the same time.
Just use a sct and be done, 1 out of 4 03/04 trucks will set a code and all of the newer trucks set codes. The sct egr tuner is $379.00, but you get a pretty sweet tuner and a reason to buy it.
And make sure you flush the coolant, we use ford coolant flush chemicals (i pull the plugs and feed it with hose water) and go back with cat elc.

damn, sounds like a lot of work and way more than I'm willing to spend...

might as well just put a new egr valve in and keep going for another 260k miles

Flush your coolant, check your deltas and drive it until it the cooler shows signs of failing. Just shut it down pronto if it ever shows symptoms.

What is considered too hot? My 03' Excursion got up to about 260 oil temp going up black mountain pulling about 7Klbs. Otherwise it stays about 220-230.

Regardless I am going to replace the oil cooler when I do the EGR delete, I am tempted to do head studs at the same time while I have it apart.

This might be a good read for you:

We've got one in the shop now getting ready for its head gaskets, I'll Say that the egr delete is much faster with the cab off lol
Generally until the degas bottle starts building pressure egr cooler and hg's are ok. The high oil temps will cause premature injector failure and are a sure sign of restricted coolant flow.

Oil temp more than 15 degrees higher than coolant is too much per ford. On an extreme hill it may peak more but should drop back within 15 quick. Higher than 253 oil temp or 225 coolant temp and the computer defuels and your power drops. If you're hammering it to maintain speed, the temps will rise, vicious cycle.

I pull a 78 f150 behind mine gcwr of 19000 lbs, coolant temp runs 200-205 oil runs 210-215 towing now. Daily driving around town ect is about 190, oil temp 195. I had to put a new oil cooler on after our trip to harlan this August, my oil was hitting 255 and defueling.

OK. so, everyone suggest to do the oil cooler, flush coolant and add $100/gallon coolant, add a tuner, check temps, do this,do that, and some have suggested to do hgs and studs while there too! Damn, with all that $$$ being thrown around, I'd be a step ahead by runing it into the ground and saving my $ for a replacement engine if the damn thing decides to implode!

I think I'll just buy and install a new egr valve and keep on trucking for another 260k miles :)

We do egr cooler deletes, coolant flush, oil cooler, coolant filter and cat elc in the 1600-2000 range depending on tuner choices and such.

And tight ass could buy there old ones..... When ur junk blows just do the cummins swap!

best advice i can give for a 6.0 cooler delete is to pull the cab & pull the 6.0 out & install a 12 valve cummins LOL

ooooooh! 408 :D A buddy just build a supercharged 415 using an LQ9 block destined for a 2011 Camaro SS, roughly 1200 hp :driver: I actually just got my 6.0 swap completed too. Amazing power!

I'd just keep truckin with the new EGR myself.
