so i just bought my 6.0 swap. who do i send the harness to? i understand jims charges $600-$700 for thinning and ecu tune, but the BD Turnkey guy thats all the hype on pirate charges $400 for harness work and ecu tuning.... and opinions here?????

My opinion is that cleaning up a wiring harness and flashing an ECM is overpriced even at $400.

But there don't appear to be many 'budget' options out there.

You could do the harness yourself, it's not difficult at all if you have the patience...$400 for a thinned harness and a tune is a good price. $600-700 is stupid expensive for the work.

Edit: Shawn, I agree $400 is too much to thin and just "flash" a PCM, but if they are going to actually do changes and tuning it's not a bad price.

i just wonder what jims does that runs the price up so much, the BD turn key place has pics of a small fuse box and realys with the harness. i guess i just need to make the phone call and ask. everyone on here screams jims jims jims. $200 to $300 price difference has me wondering..

I have never paid over $550 for any of my harness or computer tune or work from Jim's, only paid $550 once because I had a DBW harness and needed it to be DBC harness, the other 3 harness and ecm tunes were $500 even.

unless he has gone up in the last year

ill just call jims tomorrow, he is closer an everyone seems to be a fan of him on here. and after a few emails with the other place iam not really getting straight answers... now is leaving my DBW set up on there a bad idea?

I used Jim's and was very pleased with the results. He had a fuse block already wired in and only had to actually hook up about five wires to make it come to life. He labels all the loose wires for your fuel pump, cooling fan, VSS and tachometer. My only advise is to talk to him and tell him exactly what you are wanting to do with it and he listens and gives great advise. His tunes are sort of a basic ( it will run ) but it works. I am however going to get my tuned on a dyno with a wideban O2 just to make sure im safe as far as fuel trims and ignition. I doubt you will pay over $600 with shipping.

I suggest thinning the harness yourself & calling Aaron at TruDyno Sport in conover for the tune. He'll flash & get u the most out of your engine

ANY TIPS ON PLACES OR INFO ON THINNING THE HARNESS MYSELF?

While I'm sure there are more wires involved with the 6.0 harness, I've preened several TBI harnesses in an afternoon (each) drinking beer & watching TV in the shop!

1) I usually lay out the harness on the floor, connect EVERYTHING that will be used (for TBI it's the EST/ESC/Knock sensor/CTS/TB/etc), just because it let's you see it all
2)Using a schematic/diagram, mark BOTH component/sensor and ECM ends with waterproof first-aid tape/Sharpie w/ circuit ID/component
3) Take the corrugated split loom/tape off it all (fawkin MESSY)
4) Everything without tape/component/sensor gets PHYSICALLY traced back to the ECM side (too many redundant circuits/similar wire color/trace combos) & snipped off leaving 6" on the plug "just in case"
5) More

I've used Jims twice. Satisfied so far. I don't have the patience nor the time to thin the harness. The tune is a good start point. Once you get used to your swap, take it and get it dynoed and tuned again.

For thinning the harness info, check the official LSX thread here or venture over to LS1tech for the pinouts and more info...

If you are running a 2004= 6.0 it will have a DBW throttle body, you can swap a pre 04 throttle body and have the harness changed to run DBC, but remember some of the 2004+ computers do not have the IAC circuitry, so those cannot be used to run a DBC setup

I normally swap the throttle body out and run a DBC setup, but on my YJ build, I am trying the DBW setup with the pedal and module

i would go with pcm for less he has tinned a few harnesses for me and is one of the best tuners around. if you do have a DBW motor you can't just throw a manual tb on it your DBW is 54x ring and manual is 24x you have to match it up to work

i think ill go with the $400 guy, i dont see how $600 or more for the same work makes much sense to my wallet lol

ok guys, trimming down a harness takes about 6-8 hrs. i have down quite a few. that includes wiring in a fuse block and relays. my labor rate is 50hr. so that puts you at $400. then to have it flashed it is usually around $200. also everytime i tuner flashes a computer he has to pay a fee of a $100. so that leaves him with $100. go to lt1swaps.com, it shows you how to trim your own harness step by step. its not hard just takes some time. just my 2 cents.

You can throw on a manual TB on a 58x reluctor wheel engine with either a conversion harness with a box to read the 58x wheel and change the signal, or swapping the PCMs. Also, not all DBW are 58x, but all 58x are DBW....there were DBW throttle bodies well before the 58x reluctor wheel.
