200k miles, oil in coolant, water in oil so I assume she is dead. Truck is in perfect shape except for the motor. Any ideas on a rebuild, cost or whatever I can do to help some friends out will be appreciated.

The GM diesels are pretty good about blowing head gaskets. Does it still turn over etc? or is it locked up?

If it was caught early, it might not need a complete rebuild.

A compression test, might help localize the problem (low compression between two adjacent cylinders).

You can usually pick up 6.2 non-turbo engines cheap, then you can scavenge the 6.5 manifold and turbo and have a cheap replacement engine if it is dead.

The local dealership here will only replace one with a new crate motor. I'd stay away from the remans the don't last.

x2 on the cheapo 6.2. get that and reuse your other 6.5 stuff.

Tried to fire it up this weekend. Sounded like a roll of quarters in a blender. Guess this thing is fried
