I just bought an '83 J-10 in great shape and it kix total ass. It already has a 3" body lift and I am running 33x12.5 tires. I want the 6" HellCreek leaf-lift kit...BUT...I want some ideas from you jeepers w/more experience than I have! What do you think? The 6" HellCreek lift kit w/ everything is $850 plus shipping. What other quality options are out there for my J-10 in this price range? Jeeeeeeeep on.....
Thanks, Chris

what size tires do you plan on running cause if you leave the body lift on that truck will be way up there with 9 inches of lift. I did a spring over on my 77 and can run 37s which is more tire than stock axles can handle. Bjs offroad and rustys both sell six inch lifts as well.

Ditch the B/L, forget about the Hell Creek lift and go spring over/shackle flip. Flex will be a gazillion times better if you want to wheel it a lot. And since you are running 33x12.50s, are there spacers on the back tires to keep them off of the leafs or are you running less back spacing than stock?

I like the sound of that idea. One concern I have is that the springs are original and seem to be laying a little flat to me. Would it not be a good idea to replace them? They are bound to be flexed out after 26 years. I have seen the shackle reverse kits advertised, and I wondered if that was a good way to get lift. So you know that the shackles on the 83 can be flipped in this way? Or just cut and weld anyway? (I am not a fabricator, yet). I read in a JP Mag that earlier FSJs have this capability, but some time in the 80s they started to make the shackle mounting points different.
As far as the spacers at the back wheels...I just bought the Jeep and I am not sure. I'll check. I don't seem to be having any problems at all with rubbing or scrubbing at any corner, even under tight turning conditions, with these 33X12.5s.
thanks, C.J.

Don't have much FSJ experience but I'd def suggest going SOA and losing the body lift before I'd drop a lot of coin on a spring lift. Unless you're just trying to slay the mud, that's gonna be a tall, tippy truck at 9"

I'm in the process of SOAing an old rodeo 44 to put under my XJ, it was like $15 for the 1/4" stock to make my perches out of and cutting off all the old bracketry took just a couple mins...

Upshot is you'll get the lift height you want and a lower COG for a fraction of that $850. Dunno about the shackle flip, but I can almost guarantee you'd net more than 3" lift just putting the springs on the top side.

On a side note, if you can't find anyone local to help with the fab stuff I'm in Boone and would be glad to help, just shoot me a PM.

As long as your springs aren't broke they will work fine for the SOA. The SOA will net around 6-7". The shackle flip get the same in the rear.
You can check out the info here- http://www.ttsfabworks.com/
The steering setup is what costs money. Some people just run a dropped pitman arm and are fine and have no issues. I ran full high steer on my waggy. It cost a lot, but I upgraded everything.

Go with the gm d44. they are a dime a dozen at the u-pull it yards and like said already soa and no crappy vac disco. and they are already 6lug, just like your j10.

The GM axles are pass side drop and he is srivers side drop. He could go with a 78-79 ford HP Dana 44 that will bolt in for SOA.
