im looking into buying a 6inch lift. im either going to get the fabtech or the tuff county 5in. i want to run 35s. i have a 95.5 tacoma 2.7 5 speed. i know i would have to regear with 35s but what about 33s? could i do a 6 inch lift and run 33s with stock gears and it look good? i dont really wanna spend about $1000 just for 2 more inchs of tire. which is a better lift...fabtech or tuff country. i really want the fabtech but how hard it it to install. i will have a friend helping me who knows how to do this stuff. can it be done in a day? also, whats the cheapest place to buy lifts from?

Thanks,
Tommy

What are you going to be using the truck for? What kinda wheeling? All of your "cheap" lifts are going to show their downfalls first trip down the road. To me the ONLY lift for a tacoma is the OME setup. I am running OME 882's up front, an aal and downey shackle in the rear, and a 3 inch bl and fit 37's with ALOT of trimming. If you want to run 33's just do the OME suspension lift and trim what you got too.

save ur money and swap a solid front in

If he's only going to be doing light wheeling (which is sounds like he is since he's just getting started), then what's the point in spending that much money? You can do a lot with IFS. Take your time with your rig. You CAN outbuild your driving skills ya know?

good point.

I added a few thoughts while at work but the darn city server was acting up so it would not let me post. The short of it was, since budget is a concern for you (that makes you just like the rest of us), the OME setup will cost less than any of the kits you mention. It will also allow more flex than the taller lifts with much less impact on the center of gravity. More flex, less CoG = better trail rig that is less likely to end up on its lid.

And just so I don't damage my reputation here. if you put a 6 inch lift on and add what would amount to about 2-2.5 inches worth of extra tire diameter height, you will be over the legal 6 inch lift limit in NC.

Here is the 3" OME setup like HardTaco mentioned...truck sits on 33x10.50's with no trimming with room for 33x12.50's with probably a little trimming to avoid any little rubbing that might happen. My Taco is a 99 though...

(LOOK!! you can even see the OME coil and shock in the front!!!)
I'd like to get more lift out of my truck, but dropping the money on a big IFS kit like that just isn't in my budget!!

Have fun replacing those CV's at the angles they're going to be running at. And that's a lot of body to be showing just to get some big tires under it.

3" spacer? or a 3" coil? A 3" spacer is a REALLY bad idea, IMO...especially when springs can be had for the same price! :smokin:

wow this is an old thread. i was just searching yahoo for sas ideas and came across this thread i posted about 3 years ago. i still have the lift. got about 80k miles on it with no problems yet!. CV boots and everything is still good, still have stock gears, and even pull a 8ft trailor with 4wheeler every now and then. my tie rod ends are going out and i need ball joints, so i figured while i was in there upgrade the front revtek lift because i hate it. it sucks on the trails. ill post some pics up when i get home.

oh, i also droped down to 33.12-50 TSLs
