I have a chance from a co-worker to purchase a 1963 Willys CJ5, Been sitting for about 6-7 yrs. Hes had it about 10 years, Farm used, and was parked when brakes went bad, Was said that someone put a Pinto engine in it and ran before Parked ( has Tranny and 4x4. ) He told me he never got the tittle from the guy he bought it from ( They had a fallen out ) but use to have a bill of sale from him. He also told me the guy died years ago if that matters, How hard is it to get a lost tittle for it?
Also it has a Hardtop and from a little digging i think its a Myers ( SPL? ) It has the typical rust and what not for a old Jeep. I was told i could have it for 500.oo and i am thinking that its a decent deal, Been wanting a little project for a while and love the old jeeps.

He also has some 40s model Willys

Suggestions?, Opinions.

Right one.

$500 that isnt that a bad price. Pinto motor was a fairly common swap i have seen a few. You can get parts for it pretty easy. The brakes you would upgrade anyway so dont worry bout those. Title, depends on the state. I have done the Broadway title route when i lived in Florida. I am not sure about NCs rules but for the Broadway title, the jist of it was Alabama doesnt have titles for 76 and earlier vehicles. So they register the vehicle in AL and then "sell" it to you so you get the paperwork, bill of sale and registration and it is up to your state to accept the alabama laws about not having a title for old vehicles. If NC accepts AL no title, then it would be cheaper to find a friend in Alabama and have him do the same thing and it will be cheaper.

Thanks Guys. Also i love the flattys also he has like 4-5 of them and thats what we been talking about the most untill i saw the 63 i think it would be able to be fixed easier. Ima go sat and look at all of them.

Check for goodies like a Warn overdrive. That would probably be worth the price alone. The hardtop can offset the price if its in good shape and the weather gets cold. You may want to look at earlycj5.com. There are a lot of knowledgeable people there that could offer info on what to look for. Brakes are a good place to upgrade, as for wiring. Also the upper door hinges are quite scarce.

id like to see the older flattys

well, you got our mouths watering over the flattys.Find out what he has and what he wants to do...if you "help" him with sales,he might lower the price of the 5 you want.

All CJ5's had top mount wipers til the late 60's. Check out earlycj5.com for all the info you will ever need on that thing. Great bunch of guys on there just like here!
