Picked up a scout 800 a couple years back for $700. Would like to restore it to stock with some upgrades. Disc brakes and Power Steering would be nice. Does anyone know if the Disc Brake kits for the same era Jeep would fit on my scout? or perhaps with some minor modification? Anyone know of someone parting out a scout 800? Has anyone done a Power Steering setup for this rig? It has a 266 and would like to squeeze as much power out of it as I can. Thanks for the advice!

While you may luck upon a Scout/IH "expert" here..., they are few & far between.

Post up over on binderplanet.com (new incarnation of the old binderbulletin site). They were instrumental in assisting with my TBI swap.

x2. Scoutosis on here is a good source of IH knowledge but I don't know if he can help you with a baby Scout. Good luck with your project, though.

No Jeep axles will bolt in. Later model 800s had Dana 30 fronts, but were closed knuckle with drum brakes. You can convert them to discs with off-the-shelf parts. Power steering is tough on an 800, but not impossible.

The 266 is going to be what it is for power unless you're willing to drop some serious coin. It has plenty of power for your scout. If you want a racecar, sell the scout.

Go to Binderplanet if you're serious and want to keep it.

Extreme 4x4 did a show on one of the 800's (same idea you're talking about). I had a 79 Scout II, that was a great truck. If you start switching all these parts, it might not be a resto anymore. The easiest would be to find a 76-80 scout2 that the body is rusted out. Switch out the bodys (800 on a 2), it should give you 44 axles, v8, 4speed or 727 auto, power brakes (disc), power steering, and a stronger frame. Then a painless kit and some interesting body mounts should have a one of a kind scout. (If you find a 4 banger scout 2 they had 4.11 gearing in the axles and most of the time the limited slip still works in the rear. hard to find)

I am rebuilding a '64 Scout 80 now. It had the Dana 27 Axels and no engine. Picked up a 78 ScoutII with Dana44's (Front Disc) and Power Steering. Nothing fit's correctly, the springs are on different centers and there is no room for the PS box or a brake booster.

I am going with the '64 frame since it has no rust on it at all but probably would have been easire to cut the scoutII frame down.

Well of course they don't match! All you had to do was ask :)

Depending on your fab skills, a body swap may be easier.

Regardless, very few parts easily swap between 80/800s and Scout IIs.

I'm surprised you can fit a 4bt in a Scout 80 without completely moving the rad support and chopping up the firewall.
