i been looking at a real nice jeep i really want. its a 97 tj.the only prob is its a 4cyl auto.... i really would like to get it and swap a 6cyl into it and have a real nice jeep. what all would i need to swap to accomplish this? thanks for the help.

If you are going to swap in a drivetrain....not sure the inline six would be first on my list? If it is, i would just find one with a 6 pooper already in it. A 97 TJ cant be that rare.

Bingo
A quick auto trader search shows 40 97 Jeeps Wranglers within 200 miles of Charlotte ranging in price from 12k to 1475

If you're searching for a used TJ, try and find one with the d44 in the back too. It would be worth 1000-2000 up front to get one with the 4.0 and d44 instead of having to try and upgrade to them down the road.
to swap in a 4.0, you'd also need a new transmission, as they don't use the same one. (And I think, the tcase is even a different spline on the input, but I could be wrong there)

I know you can buy them I've been around jeeps long enough to know that i just really like this one- its in town clean, low miles, new top and i could trade down for it. I just needed to know what besides motor trans and ecu i needed to change

If you are going to change the engine, why worry about low miles on the vehicle. From my understanding, its just as hard if not harder than a v8 swap... you have to extend all the wiring, new radiator, and a bunch of other crazy bs. New tranny, tcase, maybe driveshafts, etc there was a write up about it in jp a few mounths back and I remember laughing at all the crap you had to go through just for an 180hp engine...but to each his own.

What they're all saying is spot on. If you already had the heep it might be another story. In this case, you might as well buy a jeep with no motor or drivetrain at all for near nothing and swap a real engine into it. There are plenty to be had right now, this one can't be that great.

ok. thanks. Thats all i needed to know. All i needed to know was what all that would entail. Thanks. Close thread.
