7.3 question

I have a 99 7.3, I am a gas mechanic not worked on to may 7.3's to me it sounds like it is skipping when the turbo is not boosting, question is if it is skipping would it throw a check engine light?

A scan tool with bidirectional communication will allow you to perform a koer test which will include a contribution test. If its a misfire it'll typically set a code. Are you thinking a misfire or is it just a sound? Any other symptoms?

Well I am guna show my age here for a min, but you remember when you were a kid and you put a playing card against the spokes of you bike? That what the exhaust sounds like when to turbo is not boosting. Exhaust is stock 3.5 with muffler cut out and a turn down were the muffler was. There is not a bunch of power when the turbo is not boosting, but from what I understand the 7.3 doesn't have a bunch of power anyway!
